Today we are digging out the baby playpen for our chicks. They are set to be here May 31st. We have decided where they are going in the yard so that they aren't too close to anything major. I'm pretty sure my neighbors don't want to wallk out there back door to the smell of chickens below, lol. We are on a half acre so they will be about half way down the yard where my garden once grew.
The garden is being redistributed to a number of beds around the yard so that I can maximize the sunlight based on what I'm growing. Too much effort??? Probably. BUT, the kids will have lots of fun learning about growing and it will never be the same boring plot of land that needs to be, once again, weeded. This way, it doesn't matter if we are in the front or back...I (because, let's face it...it will be me doing most of the work) can always keep an eye on the kids and be getting something done. I also want to make sure there are comfort zones on both sides of the yard....so that I can always choose to read a book in the sun while the kids play too :)
Cheers!
